Jeanne Blackistone Dorsey was elected as one of Leonardtown's Town Commissioners in 1968, the first woman elected to public office in St. Mary's County. Marvin Mandel (April 19, 1920 – August 30, 2015) was an American politician and lawyer. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 56th Governor of Maryland from January 7, 1969, to January 17, 1979. He was Maryland's first, and to date, only Jewish governor.
